HAASA NEWS
APB
The development and creation of our APB Application is moving closer to completion and will be ready for submission shortly to the relevant government bodies. Our APB committee has been working tirelessly over the last six months addressing components which will see HAASA continue to grow and improve the services we offer our colleagues. The development and approval of our APB will demonstrate HAASA commitment on behalf of Audiometrists that they are qualified to provide services to both the public and private health sectors.
Clinical Pathway
HAASA has on behalf of Audiometrists made submissions to the Office of Hearing Services relevant to the new Clinical Pathway and in the September issue of their bulletin the National Manager, Jenny Williams announced, “I would like to inform all providers, that in response to your comments on the proposed new clinical pathway, the Office is now looking at whether there are better approaches to take with the clinical pathway for clients.” HAASA position has always been that the service we provide as qualified practitioners under the OHS program is to ensure the best possible service to their clients.
Education
The University of New England will be offering The Bachelor of General Audiology which “…aims to provide both academic knowledge and training which will equip students with the necessary skills and expertise to pursue in Audiology.” This is an undergraduate degree coupled with the Diploma being offered by TAFE/OTEN. Both the Diploma and Degree have concurrent enrolment as an option. An applicant may complete the course either part time or full time. Recognition for Prior Learning will be provided from the Diploma to the Degree. Further information is available on their Web site at www.une.edu.au/courses/2009/courses/BGAUD and the handbook to be available late October
