Candidates for Membership of the Hearing Aid Audiometrist
Society of Australia Ltd, are required to submit their
qualifications for consideration by the Board of HAASA.
Qualifications must meet the standards outlined in the
Society’s Constitution.

Note:
The application/joining fee is only applicable for those applicants joining at Full or Associate member classification. An application/joining fee does not apply for Student membership. When upgrading from Student to Associate and Associate to Full member status there is NO application/joining fee applicable. If a membership is lapsed for a period in excess of two (2) years then the application/joining fee will be applicable.

Minimum requirements for membership include;
Full Member:
A Full Member holds a Certificate IV in Audiometry (pre 2009), or the Diploma of Hearing Device Prescription and Evaluation (post 2009), from TAFE NSW (OTEN or SIT) and a further two years post graduate, supervised clinical experience. Supervision must be undertaken by a HAASA approved Supervisor as outlined in the Rules. Documented evidence of clinical experience to be included when applying.
The Supervisor must be satisfied that the applicant is competent to undertake the full range of clinical hearing services required to work independently to industry standards. Verifiable evidence of clinical supervision must be provided with application.
An applicant for Full membership will be able to demonstrate, via compulsory competency examination, that they have the necessary clinical competencies to work independently as a clinical practitioner within the scope of their qualification. A full member is subject to compulsory CPED requirements.
HAASA recognizes the qualifications of equivalency of other professional bodies within Australia. Applicants are to submit evidence of current full membership to the same standards of the Society with their application.
If you are unable to provide copies of Certificates, or Diplomas, and other relevant documentation please provides a Statutory Declaration outlining your qualifications and/or accreditations. You should include a letter from your current employer and (if different from current employer) former supervisor/s.
Applications will be reviewed by the Executive of HAASA and the applicant notified of the result in a timely manner.
The Executive of HAASA reserves the right to have the applicant's knowledge and skills reviewed and substantiated by an independent assessor (a Registered Training Organization) if further evidence of competency is required.
Associate Member:
Holds a Certificate IV in Audiometry, or Diploma of Hearing Device Prescription and Evaluation (post 2008) but has not yet attained two (2) years full time (or equivalent) supervised, post graduate, clinical experience. A copy of the Certificate IV, or Diploma of Hearing Device Prescription and Evaluation (post 2008) and a letter from the applicant’s current employer and supervisor/s must accompany the application. The applicant must be employed as a clinical practitioner for a minimum of 30 hours per week. The applicants clinical supervisor may be a Full Member of the Society or a clinician who is a Full Member of another Hearing Industry professional body who is able to provide evidence to the Executive that he/she holds the same qualification (or higher) and experience as a Full Member of the Society who is approved to be a supervisor of a student or Associate.
HAASA recognizes the qualifications of equivalency of other professional bodies within Australia. Applicants are to submit evidence of current associate membership to the same standards of the Society with their application. Documentation of clinical experience should be recorded in a detailed, sequential manner and retained throughout the period of supervision. An Associate member is subject to compulsory CPED requirements.
Associate Member (Overseas Qualification):
All overseas applicants will be required to gain recognition of competence from an Australian Registered Training Organisation such as TAFE NSW (SI OR OTEN), by undertaking an "Entrance" or "Challenge Examination" to gain the Diploma of Hearing Device Prescription and Evaluation status. Upon providing the HAASA Executive with the RTO's Record of Academic Achievement (demonstrating a successful pass for the applicant) accompanied by any other verifiable evidence the applicant may apply to be admitted as an Associate Member (Overseas Qualification). All supporting documentation submitted for consideration, including evidence of qualification and clinical experience from within Australia or from overseas, must be verified by a Stationory Declaration.
The applicant will have his/her application considered at the most immediate meeting of the HAASA Executive. If the applicant meets the requirements of 6.3.2 of the Society Constitution he/she will be accepted as an Associate Member.
Student:
Students are required to be actively studying the Certificate IV in Audiometry or Diploma of Hearing Device Prescription and Evaluation (post 2008) through a Registered Training Organization (RTO), TAFE NSW (SI OR OTEN).
The applicant will need to forward evidence of current enrolment and letter of confirmation from their clinical supervisor.
Affiliate Member:
A person may apply to be admitted as an Affiliate Member of the Society as outlined in the constitution, upon providing evidence to the Executive that he has a genuine and proper interest in the hearing health care industry and is not employed as a clinical practitioner.
Fellow Member:
A person being a Full Member of the Society as outlined in the constitution, may apply to be admitted as a Fellow Member upon providing evidence to the Executive that he/she has an outstanding degree of service and/or has made an outstanding contribution to the profession of Audiometry will be eligible to become a Fellow subject to the Rules of the Society.
Honorary Life Member:
A person may be admitted as an Honorary Life Member of the Society upon the recommendation of the Executive accepted by the members at the next Annual General Meeting. Such a person would have provided outstanding service to the hearing impaired and the hearing services industry over a number of years.
