Hearing
Aid Audiometrist
Society of Australia Members (HAASA)
Registered HAASA Audiometrists attend the TAFE NSW School
of Biological Sciences at the Sydney Institute of Technology
(SIT) or The Open Training and Education Network (OTEN). The
Certificate IV is a two (2) year course followed by a further
minimum of two (2) years training with a registered member
of the society.
Many Audiometrists have elected to provide services to eligible
Commonwealth Hearing Services recipients under the Commonwealth
Government’s Department of Health and Aging programme.
To be accredited to provide these services Audiometrists must
undergo further examination of both their practical and theoretical
skills and knowledge. They then undertake to abide by the
rigorous Standards of Practice, Rules of Conduct and Ethical
Standards set down by the Commonwealth in the hearing Services
Contract.
A programme of Continuing Professional Development and Education
must be undertaken and achieved over a set period of time
in order to meet the requirements of membership of the Hearing
Aid Audiometrist Society Australia. HAASA members are dedicated
to upholding the highest possible standards of practice to
ensure quality hearing health care into the future.
Members of HAASA are hearing aid Audiometrists who have met
the requirements and standards established by the Society.
HAASA members provide hearing tests, guidance in the selection
of appropriate hearing aids, fitting, and the latest in computer
software programming. Further counselling and rehabilitation
is then offered to the client as required.
HAASA members are required to maintain their professional
competency through Continuing Professional Development and
Education (CPDE). These standards provide assurance to the
general public that HAASA members are committed to maintaining
a high standard of professional competency. As a condition
of membership, HAASA members must pledge to abide by the society's
code of ethics. The code sets standards of professional integrity
and practice which take into account patient/client relationships
and guidelines for colleagues and the general public. Adherence
to these standards is expected and violation of any of the
standards requires the member be subject to removal from the
society.
